Prime Minister Imran Khan once again reiterated Pakistan’s commitment towards tackling climate change on the occasion World Environment Day which is being hosted by Pakistan this year.
Expressing his views at the launch ceremony of World Environment Day 2021 in Islamabad, PM Imran Khan accentuated various notable initiatives and programmes undertaken by Pakistan’s to tackle the threat post by climate change.

The premier reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to contribute towards countering environmental changes by plantation drives, cutting carbon emissions and various other initiatives.

Dr Geoffery Shaw – Australia’s High Commissioner to Pakistan, took to social media to congratulate PM Imran Khan to felicitate him for ‘championing’ climate action and successfully hosting this year’s World Environment Day.

Prior to this, PM Imran Khan in his virtual address at launch gala event for UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (2021-2030), apprised that Pakistan successfully planted one billion trees and further highlighted that the country intends to plant a total of 10 billion trees as part of its contribution to the UN initiative.

The prime minister revealed that the government also intends to significantly increase the number of parks in the country.
So far we have established nine new national parks in addition to the 30 parks which existed in the country for the past 70 years, said PM Imran Khan.
Pakistan has achieved measure steps to tackle climate change. The country has declared 14,3939.6 square kilometer of land as ‘protected’ with 15 national parks, nine water bodies, four nature reserves, three game reserves, one wildlife reserve, 19 community controlled hunting areas and one marine protected area.
In 2020 last year, Pakistan had successfully achieved United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 13, ten years prior to the official deadline for 2030.
