Quetta: Protesting doctors relieved as government addresses their demands.
Liaquat Shahwani – Balochistan government’s spokesperson, announced that the government has agreed to the demands of protesting doctors and healthcare workers.
“We have accepted all demands put forward by doctors. Contracts of 533 doctors have been extended till June. Two hundred and five doctors and nurses have been appointed on an ad hoc basis,” he stated.
Doctors, along with other healthcare workers staged a protest on Monday highlighting the lack of basic medical equipment and safety gear amid COVID-19 outbreak.
In response, police resorted to baton- charge and arrested more than 150 doctors and paramedics citing the violation of Section 144 that has been imposed as part of the province-wide coronavirus lockdown.
Officials have clarified that the government is in process of procuring 700,000 N95 face masks and 8,500 kits from China.
A total of 202 COVID-19 cases have been reported in the province with 61 recoveries and one death.
