Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has extended travel restrictions for inbound international passengers till March 18th in wake of prevailing COVID-19 pandemic.
CAA has classified countries in three primary categories namely A, B and C. Pakistan bound passengers from category C countries are barred from entering into the country on temporary basis.
Category C countries includes South Africa, United Kingdom, Ireland, Brazil, Portugal, The Netherlands, Botswana and Zambia.
Meanwhile, travelers from category A countries are not required to submit a negative COVID-19 PCR test report. These nations include Australia, China, Iraq, New Zealand, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Singapore.
Category B comprises of coutnries that are not included in the aforementioned categories. Travelers from such countries are required to submit a negative COVID-19 PCR test report which is not more than 72 hours old.
Pakistan Reports 2,000 COVID-19 Cases
Pakistan on Saturday (today) reported 2,338 COVID-19 cases marking the third consecutive day with country’s COVID-19 tally crossing the 2,000 mark.
Smart lockdowns have been imposed in Peshawar, Lahore Rawalpindi and Gujrat in wake of spike in coronavirus cases. In Peshawar smart lockdown has been imposed in Street No 9, Sector E-11, Phase I, Hayatabad; Street No 3, Gulbahar No 4, near Police Chowki; Street No 11, Defence Colony, Peshawar Cantt and Street No 5, Sector F-V, Phase VI, Hayatabad.
Pakistan’s Third COVID-19 Wave
Federal Minister for Planning and Development – Asad Umar on March 12th confirmed that Pakistan is indeed going through a third COVID-19 wave.
Asad Umar noted that there is no doubt that the third wave has started and basically, the phenomena that’s driving it is the spread of the UK strain.
Spike in coronavirus cases was witnessed in districts where a large portion of the Pakistan British community lives, said the federal minister.
Pakistan has reported a total of 602,536 COVID-19 cases with 13,476 deaths so far. A total of 569,296 people have successfully recovered from the novel virus whereas 1,720 are still in critical condition.
According to NCOC statistics 2,338 COVID-19 cases have been reported in the last 24 hours along with 46 casualties.
