Prime Minister Imran Khan addressed the nation today, a day after the government announced him seeking a vote of confidence from the parliament.
“The [parliament’s] session has been called for Saturday afternoon at 12:30 pm,” said Information Minister Shibli Faraz, Imran Khan later confirmed the news in his address.
PM Khan said that the Senate debacle has further strengthened disparity in the country, he said: “Prisons are filled with lesser criminals. It seems that the powerful and affluent are exempt from facing justice in Pakistan. I came into politics to challenge this status quo and provide equity.”
“When we pursued FATF objectives to remove Pakistan from the grey list, the Opposition came to us to with a one-point agenda; for me to grant them an NRO.”
“Why did the other parties which demanded an open ballot in the Charter of Democracy now suddenly oppose it so vehemently?” It is because of the fear of losing power in the Senate to us and facing criminal charges.” claimed the premier.
Prime Minister Imran Khan implored that the nation must take a clear stance and stand by him in his fight against the corrupt.
“I ask my nation, if you accept the corrupt as part of society, and validate their corruption – what example are you setting for your children and future generations? Do you want to uplift the nation or do you want to side with the corrupt?”
He added that the Election Commission of Pakistan did nothing to stop the path of corruption and horse-trading in the Senate Elections, he added that the ECP acted as a facilitator that kept its eyes closed and failed to scrutinize the crucial process.
The information minister had revealed earlier that the newly elected Senators will be sworn in on March 12.
In response to a question, Faraz said that the ruling party is currently focused on the aftermath of the Senate elections and legal action can be taken against PTI parliamentarians who voted other than the party’s candidates — pending a formal inquiry into the matter.
