Federal government on Thursday (today), approved increase in electricity tariff by Rs 1.95 per unit.
Addressing a press-conference Omar Ayub – Federal Minister for Energy, announced the approval of Rs 1.95 power tariff hike.
However, government has also approved a subsidy of Rs 473 billion to the power sector, said Omar Ayub.
The increase in electricity tariff has been approved in order to ease the financial burden on the economy which has already been adversely affected due to inflations and various other factors.
The federal minister also criticized the PML-N government which had left ‘landmines’ for the PTI government which is struggling to recover from the leftovers of the previous government.
Federal Minister for Planning – Asad Umar was also present at the press briefing and accentuated the fact that the PTI government has taken substantial policy decisions to address the challenges faced by the power sector.
Furthermore, Tabish Gohar – SAPM on Power highlighted government’s steps towards addressing power sector woes. He noted that new agreements with IPPs will reduce the burden by Rs 6,000 billion while Rs 450 billion arrears will be paid this year.
