National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has filed a reference against Babar Hashmi – Pakistan’s former ambassador to Bulgaria.
The anti-graft body has filed a reference against Babar Hashmi in an Islamabad accountability court accusing him and Tufail Qazi, a former accountant of being involved in financial embezzlement.
The duo is accused to of financial embezzlement amounting to Rs 19 million between 2016 and 2018.
The funds were in-fact released for Pakistan’s embassy in Sofia, Bulgaria’s capital.
It is to be noted that Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) had requested NAB to probe the illegal use of embassy funds for personal benefits.
The scandal surfaced after a new accountant had taken charge who then discovered that embassy funds were used for paying hotel bills and organizing lavish parties.
