Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Monday (today), met with Zalmay Khalilzad – US Special Representative for Afghanistan to mull over bilateral security cooperation.
According to Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa and Zalmay Khalilzad discussed matters of mutual interest including overall regional security situation with particular reference to ongoing Afghan reconciliation process.
During the meeting, both dignitaries reiterated their country’s commitment towards the common goal of peace and stability in the region and agreed on continued engagement at multiple levels.
Zalmay Khalilzad also praised Pakistan’s role aimed at the provision of enduring peace in Afghanistan and the region.
It is pertinent to know that Zalmay Khalilzad has extensively coordinated with Pakistan’s military and civilian leadership on a constant basis to formulate a joint strategy towards establishing lasting peace in war torn Afghanistan.
Pakistan has played a key role in the progress, success achieved in Afghan peace process by critically facilitating the US-Taliban Peace Deal signed in February 2020 last year.
