Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday, has warned of country’s hospitals and health infrastructure being at risk of being overwhelmed due to increasing COVID-19 cases.
Expressing his views in a televised address following a meeting of National Coordination Committee (NCOC), PM Imran Khan cited grave concerns regarding the current COVID-19 situation in the country.
PM Imran urged the public to strictly adhere to COVID-19 SOPs, preventive measures and guidelines in order to prevent further spread amid prevailing second coronavirus wave.
Highlighting country’s healthcare system being overburdened, PM Imran said that around 50 percent of the beds are occupied in Islamabad. The national average of COVID-19 beds currently occupied is approximately 40 per cent.
The premier warned of country’s healthcare system at risk of being overwhelmed and not be able to cater to increasing number of COVID-19 cases.
Opposition’s recklessness
PM Imran Khan also underscored the reckless approach adopted by opposition parties in their anti-government campaign.
The opposition parties are holding public gatherings which increase the chances of the spread of the pandemic, he said.
Prime Minister urged opposition to put off their public gatherings for around two to three months for public interests amid prevailing second coronavirus wave.
By holding the gatherings, the opposition cannot put him or the government under pressure but they are putting the lives of people at risk, he added.
