India repatriated 19 fishermen via Attari land border upon completion of their jail terms last week.
This is the first repatriation of Pakistani prisoners after the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The fishermen reached from Lahore to Karachi earlier in the day where eager relatives waited patiently for their loved ones.
The occasion turned somber when the fishermen told the tales of the harrowing torture they endured in Indian jails during their times in captivity.
The fishermen narrated that they were subjected to physical violence each and every day by Indian security personnel who harbored great venom against Pakistani’s and Muslims.
A fishermen claimed that they were also injected with intoxicating agents to keep them in a constant state of numbness.
On the occasion, Chairman fisheries Abdul Bar protested the ill-treatment of innocent fishermen at the hands of India’s security apparatus and called for the neighboring countries to cease and desist. He added that such grave human rights violations had now become an everyday occurrence in India and their biased attitude towards Pakistanis, Muslims, and other minority communities in the country.
The fishermen are currently isolated for a period of 14 days as a precaution amidst the wide-spreading coronavirus pandemic.
