Pakistan Navy (PN) inducted second Yarmook-Class Corvette PNS TABUK in its fleet on Friday.
According to Director General Public Relations Pakistan Navy (DGPR), the commissioning Ceremony of Pakistan Navy Ship (PNS) TABUK was held at Romania.
Capable to embark multi-role Helicopter and UAV simultaneously and can perform variety of maritime operations, said PN spokesperson.
Expressing his views during the ceremony, Captain Muhammad Umair – Commanding Officer (CO) PNS TABUK accentuated the ship’s significance and impact in Indian Ocean region.
He also lauded the professional competence of DAMEN Shipyards.
The ship is part of a two vessel order with Damen, signed by the Pakistan Ministry of Defense in 2017. Both ships are built at Damen Shipyards Galati in Romania.
“Damen has been involved in many projects in Pakistan since 1986 and we are very proud of this long-lasting and trusting cooperation,” said Galati Flemming Sorensen – Managing Director Damen Shipyards.
Prior to this, PNS Yarmook had joined the Pakistan Navy fleet earlier this year.
Yarmook-Class Corvette
The Yarmook-class corvette is based on the design of offshore patrol vessels (OPV) developed by the Dutch Shipyard Damen.
The ships are multipurpose, highly adaptable platforms, capable of performing a wide variety of operations in a complex maritime environment. She is able to launch a helicopter and a UAV, as well as two RHIBs simultaneously.
The 2,300 tonnes corvettes are equipped with state of the art electronic warfare, anti-ship and anti-air weapons/sensors along with modern self-protection and terminal defense system.
