Washington: According to John Hopkins University, the COVID-19 death toll in US has surpassed 5,000 with 216,000 cases across the country.
According to the statistics issued by John Hopkins University, United States has the largest number of confirmed coronavirus cases reaching 216,000, where else the death toll has exceeded 5,100.
The number of confirmed infections in the US rose by more than 25,000 in 24-hours. New York City has been the epicentre of virus outbreak in the US with 1,300 deaths so far.
More than 75% of the US population are now under orders to stay at home as US officials have warned that as many as 240,000 people could die from the disease despite of the preventive measures and lockdowns that have been imposed.
According to the director of the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention Dr. Robert Redfield, in US, an estimated 25 per cent of coronavirus carriers have no symptoms.
“Information that we have pretty much confirmed now is that a significant number of individuals that are infected actually remain asymptomatic. That may be as many as 25 per cent,” he noted.
The global number of confirmed COVID-19 cases are close to a million while death toll edges around 50,000, as the outbreak continue to ravage nations such as the United States, Italy, France and Spain.
