Pakistani airlines face dire circumstances as they might get banned from operating in 188 countries over safety concerns.
The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in 12th meeting of its 179th session warned Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) over latter’s failure to ensure the provision of required security standards.
The UN body has approved a mechanism for addressing Significant Safety Concerns (SSCs) to its member states.
Pakistan, along with seven other countries have been identified as those which have failed to address the SSCs.
The development is associated with the scandal involving dubious licenses and fake credentials of Pakistani pilots.
Furthermore, ICAO has also highlighted that PCCA failed to ensure international standards regarding licensing and training procedures and official credentials.
Pakistani air crafts, pilots and other associated professionals face getting barred from operating in 188 countries after the ICAO’s 90-day deadline expires.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Airlines Pilots Association (PALPA) has expressed grave concerns over ICAO’s warning to Pakistan hinting looming ban on Pakistani airlines and pilots.
“This will have serious consequences and could be a total disaster for Pakistan’s aviation industry…PALPA had been raising this issue since June 2020 but unfortunately it was neglected by the authorities concerned,” read the statement issued by PALPA spokesperson.
