Vice Admiral (Retd) Iqbal Fazal Qadir – a 1965 Indo-Pak War veteran, passed away in Karachi on Monday (today).
According to a Pakistan Navy (PN) spokesperson Vice Admiral (Retd) Iqbal Fazal Qadir who served in the 1965 Indo-Pak war passed away on Monday.
Vice Admiral (Retd) Iqbal Fazal Qadir was a ghazi of ‘Operation Dwarka’ conducted by Pakistan Navy against Indian radar station located at Dwarka, India.
During the operation he commanded PNS Alamgir which along with other Pakistan Navy ships including PNS Babar, PNS Badar, PNS Khyber, PNS Jahangir, PNS Alamgir, PNS Shahjahan, and PNS Tipu Sultan attacked Dwarka.
Vice Admiral (Retd) Iqbal Fazal Qadir joined Pakistan Navy in in 1947 and was trained in signals in Britannia Royal Naval College in England. He served as served in the Navy NHQ as Chief of Staff (COS) for Commander of Pakistan Fleet (COMPAK) followed by his appointment as Commander of Karachi (COMKAR) in 1978.
Furthermore, he was promoted to three-star rank, Vice-Admiral, in the Pakistan Navy and tenured as the Vice-Chief of Naval Staff under Adm. Karamat Rahman Niazi, the Chief Of Naval Staff (CNS).
For his services to the nation, Vice Admiral (Retd) Iqbal Fazal Qadir was conferred upon several national awards including Hilal-i-Imtiaz, Tamgha-e-Imtiaz, Sitara-e-Basalat and Tamgha-e-Quaid-e-Azam.
