In what is being hailed as a historic and monumental decision, Pakistan has become the first Muslim country in the world to illegalize tradition of dowry prevalent in the sub-continent.
Minister of Religious Affairs of Pakistan has undertaken the decision to ban the tradition in which the groom and his family asks the bride and her family to bring valuables and or other objects of worth with her to her new home.
According to the new law, the allowed dowry will just be limited to clothes (for the bride only) and bedsheets.
In the case of divorce, the groom’s side has to return all the gifts and dowry to the girl.
