Sindh government on Friday, announced its decision to procure electric buses for Karachi’s Green Line BRT project.
Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah on Friday, presided over Provincial Coordination and Implementation Committee (PCIC) meeting to mull over various development and infrastructure projects in the metropolitan city.
The meeting approved the procurement of electric buses for Karachi’s Green Line Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) project.
The buses will be operated by a private contractor/company.
Furthermore, the meeting also mulled over competition of various development projects including repair work of 106 roads by Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC).
Green Line BRT Project
The Green Line is a bus rapid transit project launched back in 2016 to address mass-transit issue in the metropolitan city.
The Green Line BRT track spans across 24 kilometers in total, of which 12.7 kilometers is elevated whereas 10.9 kilometers of track is on ground-level, with another 422 meters being constructed underground.
The project will incorporate 25 stations and will have a underground bus terminal and parking facility at Numaish chowrangi.
The route will include areas of Railway Road, Moulvi Tamizuddin Road, M.A Jinnah Road, Business Recorder Road, Nawab Siddique Ali Khan Road, Shahrah-e-Sher Shah Suri, Shahrah-e-Usma and Khawaja Shamsuddin Azeemi Road.
