Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) on Friday, imposed a complete ban prohibiting media coverage of Motorway Rape Case.
The regulatory body has issued a notification imposing a complete ban on media coverage of matters pertaining to the Motorway Rape Case incident.
The decision to prohibit media coverage of the Motorway Rape Case has been taken on the directions of Administrative Judge of the Anti-Terrorism Courts (ATC) Lahore.
“It is an offence related to sex and certainly due to media coverage concerned victim and his family will also be disgraced, so Chairman, PEMRA is hereby directed to stop the coverage of FIR No, 1369/2020,” read the notification issued by PEMRA.
As per the notification;
- All satellite TV Channels are therefore directed to comply with the above orders of the Honorable Anti-Terrorism Court, Lahore regarding Sialkot Motorway incident in letter and spirit and refrain from airing any content with regard to the instant case in future.
- In case of non-compliance, PEMRA shall be constrained to initiate legal action under enabling provision of PEMRA Ordinance 2002 as amended by PEMRA (Amendment) Act 2007.
Motor Rape Case Incident
The victim – a mother of two and whose identify has not yet been disclosed, was travelling with her children on Sialkot-Lahore motorway along with her two children when her car ran out of fuel at the Gujjarpura section at around 1:30am on Tuesday night.
She had duly informed and shared her location with a relative and even tried approaching Motorway Police via their helpline, however she received no response from the latter.
Meanwhile, two robbers approached the car, broke the window and then raped the victim repeatedly in front of her children.
The robbers also took Rs 100,000 in cash, a bracelet, car registration and three ATM cards with them.
