Aamir Liaquat Husain on Monday, announced to challenge Sindh government’s decision to divide Karachi’s District West and establish city’s seventh district by the name of Kemari District.
Aamir Liaquat took to social media to announce his decision to file a petition in Sindh High Court (SHC) against the division of Karachi’s District West to establish the new ‘Kemari District’ as revealed by the Sindh government.
“I’m going to file a petition in Sindh High Court against the illegal decision of Sindh government regarding the division of District West….The petition has full support Prime Minister,” he tweeted.
The development comes as earlier, Sindh government on August 20th last week, announced the formation of a new seventh district in Karachi under the name of ‘Kemari District’.
The new district will bifurcate Karachi’s District West – the largest district in Sindh with an estimated population of 3,914,757.
The proposed Kemari District will comprise of areas such as Site, Baldia, Harbour and Maripur sub-divisions.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) have opposed the move.
The two parties have contended that Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) is trying to artificially boost its mandate in Karachi by dividing it.
