Islamabad High Court (IHC), is scheduled to hear federal government’s petition seeking legal representation for Indian spy Khulbhushan Jadhav today (Monday).
IHC bench under Chief Justice Athar Minallah will hear the federal government’s petition under Presidential Ordinance seeking legal representation for Khulbhushan Jadhav.
The development comes as earlier, Khulbhushan Jadhav had refused to file against his sentence by military court, and the Indian spy cannot have a legal representation without India’s assistance.
Prior to this the government of Pakistan had provided third consular access to Khulbhushan Jadhav under the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations (VCCR) 1963, whereas the first consular access was provided to the Indian spy on 2 September 2019, followed by another one on July 16th.
The Indian government has had largely refused to assist Khulbhushan Jadhav in his legal battles, prompting Pakistan to act on its own in ensuring that international laws and conventions are duly carried out in accordance with the verdict announced by International Court of Justice (ICJ).

Khulbhushan Jadhav aka Hussain Mubarak Patel was arrested inside Balochistan in Mashkel near the border region of Chaman on March 3, 2016, on charges of working for Indian intelligence agency RAW and being involved in various terrorism and espionage activities inside Pakistan and was sentenced to death in 2017.
India filed a petition in ICJ seeking the annulment of sentence and release of Khulbhushan Jadhav. ICJ however, denied India’s request and directed Pakistan to provide consular access to Mr Jadhav and ensure the fulfilment of all international laws and conventions in this regard.
