Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar, on Monday, warned K-Electric that the federal government will intervene if load shedding issue remains unresolved in Karachi.
The federal minister reprimanded K-Electric for its failure to resolve prolonged power outages in the metropolis stating that the federal government will intervene and play its due role if the electricity distributor fails to perform adequately and efficiently in tackling load shedding issue in Karachi.
“If KE will not do its job, the Centre will play its role. If KE violates its agreement, an action would be taken against them,” he noted.
Asad Umar further said that National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) will be extensively vigilant over KE’s performance in tackling power crisis in Karachi and that the power supplier might be penalized if it fails to satisfy NEPRA and the federal government.

Meanwhile, Governor Sindh Imran Ismail has also announced to write to NEPRA to probe into the issue of overbilling by K-Electric stating that the company will face serious repercussions if found guilty.
“If it’s proven that the company has been charging people more than it should without any justifiable reason, then I will make sure every penny K-Electric charged is returned,” he said while talking to a private news channel.
The prime minister is very serious about resolving the issues of the people of Karachi, he added.
