9th Muharram is being observed today with religious solemnity in memory of the sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his family in Karbala.
Taazia and Zuljinah processions are being carried out in federal capital Islamabad and provincial capitals Karachi, Quetta, Lahore and Peshawar, along with several other cities across the country.
Processions will also include majalis in which ulema will shed light on the significance of the sacrifice made by Prophet Muhammad’s (P.B.U.H) grandson Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his family for the preservation of principles of Islam and its teachings.
Large number of people are expected to attend Muharram processions amid strict security measures enforced by the government and law enforcement agencies (LEAs).
Cellular network services have been suspended in Karachi and various other cities across the country as a precautionary security measure.
In Karachi only cellular network services have been completely suspended in District Central and District South, whereas District East will face targeted suspension of cellular services around Muharram processions’ routes such as Nishtar Park, Shah Nawaz Bhutto Road, Father Jammes Road, MA Jinnah Road till Capri cinema and Preedy Street up to Parking Plaza Saddar.
According to police sources, around 6,368 police personnel have been deployed in the city with snipers posted at main procession routes along with additional deployment of Sindh Rangers.
Muharram processions will be strictly monitored via several CCTV cameras placed on and around processions routes.
Thatta, Sujawal, Hyderabad, Khairpur, Tando Muhammad Khan, Dadu and Jacobabad have also been subjected to mobile network suspension on the occasion of 9th and 10th Muharram.
