Eight Pakistani women have been included in the ‘Global 100 Outstanding Women Nurse and Midwife Leaders 2020 list’.
As per details, five of the eight Pakistani women included in the list are in-fact faculty members of Agha Khan University (AKU) School of Nursing and Midwifery.
Pakistani women named in the list include Dr Rozina Karmaliani, Yasmin Parpio, Samina Vertejee, Saima Sachwani, Marina Baig, Dr Shela Hirani, Neelam Punjani and Sadaf Saleem.
“During the International Year of the Nurse and the Midwife, amidst a global pandemic, the courageous work of nurses and midwives deserves, more than ever, to be honored—not just by applause. Let us use the stories of their everyday heroism and service to call for all countries to invest in decent work and a new social contract for nurses and midwives as part of their commitment to health for all,” said the official statement issued by Women in Global Health (WGH).
A total of one hundred nurses and midwives from 43 countries have been recognized by WGH for their contribution to raising healthcare standards across the globe, especially during these difficult times.
The list has been formed in collaboration with World Health Organization (WHO), United Nations Population Fund, Nursing Now, International Council of Nurses and International Confederation of Midwives.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) has also lauded Pakistani women on making it to the Global 100 Outstanding Women Nurse and Midwife Leaders 2020 list’.
