Around 60,000 illegally hoarded wheat sacks have been recovered from various storage facilities in Khairpur’s Tehsil of Naro on Tuesday.
According to details, authorities carried out raids at several warehouses in Tehsil Naro – Khairpur, and recovered around 60,000 wheat sacks that were illegally hoarded by traders for gaining additional profit by creating an artificial shortage of wheat supply.
Prior to this, Sindh Food Authority had recovered 25,000 thousand wheat sacks from a cotton factory in Hala, Hyderabad. While another 15,000 wheat sacks worth up to Rs52.5 million, were recovered from a rice mill in Larkana last week.
It is to be noted that NAB has has formed a two-member team to investigate and submit an inquiry report in wheat theft case, as Sindh government has earlier written to NAB, asking it to investigate 168,000 metric tonnes of wheat amounting to Rs 7 billion being stolen from various government warehouses and storage facilities across the province.
In addition to it, NAB had also summoned PPP leader Nisar Khuhro in wheat corruption case, in which he is accused of misusing his powers and allocating large sum of wheat to flour mills on credit on behalf of Sindh Food Department, when he held the designation of Sindh Food Minister
Federal and provincial governments have been under pressure after the release of sugar and wheat crisis inquiry report by FIA, which blamed various prominent politicians as well as federal and provincial government officials for being responsible the sugar, wheat crisis that gripped the country a few months ago.
