Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar, on Friday, announced that the provincial government has completed 57 per cent of the wheat procurement of its total target of 4.5 million metric tonnes.
In a statement, CM Usman Buzdar said that the government’s wheat procurement target is set at 4.5 million metric tonnes, of which 2.6 million metric tonnes of wheat has already been procured and around 85 per cent bardana (gunny bags) have been distributed among farmers.
The chief minister added that the government is ensuring that all the operations regarding wheat procurement process are being carried out keeping in line with the social distancing measures and guidelines recommended by medical experts amid COVID-19 outbreak.
Usman Buzdar reaffirmed that he is personally monitoring the wheat procurement operations to ensure transparency and efficiency, and that government will ensure full and timely payments to all the farmers.
Furthermore, he also expressed his views on World Thalassemia Day (today), stating that the provincial government has formulated a comprehensive policy for thalassemia patients and their treatment across the province.
