Around 176 Pakistanis who were stranded in India due to COVID-19 travel restrictions, returned to Pakistan today (Wednesday) via Wagah border crossing.
A total of 176 Pakistani nationals returned to Pakistan from India via Wagah-Attari border crossing between India and Pakistan.
These Pakistani nationals had gone to India to visit their relatives in various Indian states including Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand and Delhi and had been stuck there after Indian government extended its coronavirus lockdown and travel restrictions.
As a precautionary measure, the repatriated individuals will be quarantined in Lahore before allowing them to depart for their hometowns.
The development comes, as Pakistan’s Foreign Office (FO), a day earlier, had announced that it was in contact with Indian authorities and officials for the repatriation of stranded Pakistani citizens in India.
The Pakistani High Commission in India has played a vital role in facilitating and assisting Pakistani nationals stuck in more than 20 cities in India.
More than 400 Pakistanis are reported to have been repatriated from India since March 20.
