Around 1,000 sanitary workers have been equipped with personal protective equipment (PPEs) in the federal capital.
As per the details, PPEs were distributed among the sanitary workers of CDA directorate in Islamabad in an event arranged on at the cricket ground of Sector-F-7, right behind the ‘Flower Market’ opposite Jinnah Super Market.
The initiative is a result of health concerns raised by Pakistan Interfaith League (PIL) and Interfaith-League against Poverty (I-LAP), who have been urging the authorities to heed to the health threats faced by sanitary workers amid COVID-19 outbreak.
Sajid Ishaq – chairman Pakistan Interfaith League (PIL) and Ms Nazia Ansari, the Executive Director of I-LAP successfully came up with sturdy and long lasting PPEs for sanitation workers that will last through their work hours and will provide effective protection from COVID-19 coronavirus.
Prior to this only doctors, paramedics and hospital staff were being given priority on the provision of PPEs and low level government workers such as sweepers and sanitation workers lacked necessary protective equipment amid virus threat. According to chairman National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Lieutenant General Muhammad Afzal, all the personal protective equipment (PPEs) is being manufactured locally in Pakistan, making the country self-sufficient in PPE supply.
